The Fades Cancelled
Well, this truly sucks. One of my favorite new shows from 2011 got the axe a few days ago. Thanks, BBC Three! Initially, I wasn't impressed with the dense pilot, but the horror/fantasy series quickly grew on me. Nothing groundbreaking in terms of premise: teen with extraordinary powers and the fate of the world seemingly in his hands. Sort of a mashup of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the last few seasons of Supernatural -- just a little bloodier.
A deft mix of horror, humor and coming-of-age story. Now we're left to ponder what will happen in the ongoing war between the Angelics and The Fades (that lovely fellow above). I hope we get a little bit of closure in some form of ancillary media -- maybe a graphic novel? The six episode series just came out on DVD for region 1 players.
But don't take my word for it, check out the pilot while it's up on youtube. Again, the pilot throws a lot at the viewer without explaining very much, but still manages to entertain.
Once your done with that, check out the script over at the BBC Writersroom.
