Destiny Calls

Last night’s season premiere of “Lost” was a bit of a departure. The show has always stuck a tentative big toe in the sci-fi waters for a few seconds, but this time it dove in head first. What happened to all the promises of a logical explanation to everything? Hopefully, time travel won’t become a big mess like it did on “Heroes”. Ratings weren't that -- though it came in third place behind "Criminal Minds" and the premiere of "Lie to Me".

It came in THIRD? Wow. I wouldn't have guessed that. Now that they have an end point they don't have to drag everything out anymore.

Time travel can be difficult, but really nobody can do it right, so those who are looking for super logical time travel should never look to tv or film! LOL.

I had a great time with these two eps. Lots happened. Seemed like 1 hour instead of two.

“Criminal Minds” (13.86 million)
“Lie to Me” (13.19 million)
“Lost” (11.66 million) -- moved up to second place at 10pm behind “CSI: New York”, but when you put an advertising spin on the numbers, “Lost” outperformed “Criminal Minds” and “CSI: New York” in those magical 18-34 and 18-49 age groups.

First we had flashbacks, then flash forwards and now time shifts. Pretty clever move. Almost as if they planned it from the beginning... nah.

Well, as you and I both know, scream, some writers are super planners, some writers do a bit of planning, and some writers fly by the seat of their pants.

I tend to think that they knew at least the 'rules' of the game. What the island was and a few scant details about the Dharma people and The Others. But that was about it. Oh, and I do think they knew a bit about each character's background and their biggest secrets, because it started out as flashbacks.

But beyond that, I know they created the complexity as they went along. I remember reading that Ben was only supposed to be on the show for a few eps, but he did creepy so well, they found a way to keep him around longer.

Anyway, like I said, I enjoyed. I do almost every ep, so I'm around for the long haul.

Even though I stopping trying to decipher every weekly clue, I'm curious enough to see how they wrap things up. I just hope they don't pull a "St. Elsewhere" or "Jacob's Ladder" on us...
